Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16 AV)
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:37 AV)
These two sentences have historically been used as a confession of faith among the Churches of Christ, and are considered to include belief in the deity of Christ.
No formal creed or list of doctrines has been composed or adopted. Rather, the belief inherited by the church is that written creeds have a tendency to divide Christians rather than to unite them, and that the aim should be to promote Christian unity. The church seeks therefore to express its Christian faith in words found in the New Testament.
There are, or have been, a number of websites which say that we are Scotch Baptist. This has never been the case: it is a mistake possibly posted as a genuine error on a website and transferred from there to other websites, and perhaps arising from the fact that the cause was initially formed in 1840 by people who left the Scotch Baptist church in Ponciau.
